Fishing & Catching All Day
While
crossing the Bay Bridge this morning, there was little visibility on the
Chesapeake Bay and the Eastern Shore was dark with clouds.
I was invited by Capt. Mike Anderson to light tackle and fly fish on the Miss
Jo, a 40’ Robbins charter boat. As we left Bloody Point Marina, the sky was
starting to clear and the fog had lifted for good visibility.
Capt. Mike had decided to fish structures and use working birds as a backup. It
was a good decision since a variety of structures, in depths of 14’ to 55’, and
working birds kept us on striped bass and bluefish throughout the day, with the
exception of slack tide.
Light spinning tackle with Hopkins spoons was the most productive, but I did
catch a few on the fly rod.
Lesson Learned:
It doesn’t take a particular size or type of boat to catch fish on the
Chesapeake Bay using fly or light tackle.
Special Thanks:
To Capt. Mike Anderson for a
most enjoyable fishing trip.
