DREAM PUSS

THEY CAST: The Sea
Cat 22 CC is a go-anywhere, do-anything cat.
WE CAST: Running down the backside of a three- foot chop, it
sliced and diced the waves like a champ. I turned downsea and the boat
tracked as if it were on rails. So I gunned the throttles and turned
beam-to. My test boat topped out near 48 mph--fast enough to catch up to
those birds diving on the horizon. Vinylester resin and NPG gel add
durability, and water-tight closed cell foam injected hulls provide
security. But it’s the fishing features that set apart this boat. My
favorite is the automatic deck washdown system. Flip it on and two holes
near the base of the console flood the deck with raw water. Didn’t quite
get it all? Finish off with a manual fresh or raw water washdown; a
single hose lets you choose your method. A standard tackle locker with
four boxes is on the right side of the console; the transom houses an
80-quart livewell; and a 160-quart fishbox lives in the bow. Like
electronics? There’s a 1’2”-by-1’2 ˝” flat area for flush mounted gear.
Need privacy? The optional door panel swings up and drops a curtain to
hide anyone using the portable MSD. Get some rubber bumpers--drop one of
the hatches on the 22 CC and you’ll wake the neighbors. Also, bring a
flashlight because there’s no light in the livewell.
WHO WILL FISH IT: Anglers who run offshore on weekends and heave
at tarpon on weeknights.
ANOTHER CHOICE: Pro
Sports 22 CC Pro Kat is $1,500 more than the Sea Cat, has comparable fit
and finish, and similar performance.
THE NUMBERS: $55,355.
